The first Datsun Fairlady feature a glass-fibre body on what was essentially a 310 Bluebird chassis with a 988cc 34hp engine and four speed transmission. The suspension featured double wishbones at the front with torsion bars and a live axle on semi elliptic leaf springs. Drum brakes were employed all round. The performance was pretty http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1959_310.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_310.jpg)uninspiring with around 70mph top speed.310 - August 1959
This, the first Datsun Bluebird was the real breakthrough model for Nissan, particularly in the US market. It was a bigger, stronger car than the Datsun 1000 it replaced. Initially the 310 came with a 1000cc engine but soon the 1200cc E1 engine was employed. Although the body is similar the 310 is readily identified from the later 312 by it's smaller tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_310_r.jpg) and front turn signals being outside of the grille. A wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_w310.jpg) version of the 310 was also available. http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1959_pg222.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_pg222.jpg)PG222 - 1959
The 222 is a pickup version of the 210 sedan with a 1189cc engine and four speed transmission. This was the first small pickup to be sold in the US by Datsun and was a pioneer of the "mini truck" there.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1959_aqti.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_aqti.jpg)AQTI - 1959
The Prince Clipper was one of the first medium sized trucks to feature the space effiecient cab over design where the engine is located beneath the seats. It could carry three persons and a 2000kg load. This model was produced as a Nissan after 1966 and was badged as http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1959_aqvh.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_aqvh.jpg)"Nippon Clipper" in Europe.AQVH - 1959
The Prince Clipper Route Van features a new but similarly styled body on the AQTI chassis with the same OHV engine. The route van was available with just front seats and a huge load area or with a slightly smaller load area and six seats. The Microbus version (AQVH-B) (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_aqvh_b.jpg) could http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1959_vg221.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1959_vg221.jpg)carry 14 passengers, the most in it's class.VG221 - 1959

This was the first Nissan Cedric and Nissans first post war luxury car. Early cars have a 1488cc 71hp engine which was replaced with an 1883cc unit rated at 88hp. Both engines are 4 cylinder. The model 30 http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1960_60.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1960_60.jpg)was also available as a wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1960_w30.jpg).60 - 1960

As the Datsun Bluebird 310 was replaced 312 and intermetiate model appeared known as the 311 and featured a 310 grille with 312 tail lights as far as I can tell. Again, I have little info on this one so if http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1961_312.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1961_312.jpg)anybody can contribute I'd be very gratefull.312 - February 1961
February 1961 brought an updated Bluebird with new larger tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1961_312_r.jpg) and a wider grill encompasing the turn signals. The E1 engine was still in use but the interior got a slight revamp and the dash was re-styled. The 1200cc E1 engine featured in the bulk of 312's but the standard base model still had just 1000cc's. A wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1961_w311.jpg) was available and had also http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1961_blsid.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1961_blsid.jpg)gained new tail lights and grille.BLSID-3 - 1961
Launched in April '61 and known as a Prince Skyline in Japan. This version has a 1862cc motor giving 91hp. There may have been a 1500cc version too but I have little information to go on.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1962_s21s.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_s21s.jpg)S21S - 1962
A re-styled '61 Skyline, launched in September '62 and called a Prince Skyline in Japan. It had the same 91hp 1862cc engine. This is quite a clever re-style as the body is the same as the BLSID model yet somehow manages to look much more modern than it's predesessors 1950 American "fins and chrome" look.SP213 - 1962
http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1962_31.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_31.jpg)Datsun Fairlady31 - October 1962
The 31 model Cedric replaced the 30 in October 1962 and was available as a standard or deluxe sedan or as a wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_w31.jpg). The 1883cc engine gives 88hp. This was the first export Cedric which was sold in Australia, parts of Europe and even the USA. Known as a Cedric everywhere except USA where I believe it may have been called a Datsun 1900. I believe as few as 19 were sold in the US. One still resides in a junkyard in Pensilvania, awaiting rescue. See a picture HERE (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/usa31_1.jpg). Anybody who wants to go rescue it, e-mail me ([email protected]) and I'll pass on the details.SP310 - 1962
Launched in October 1962, the first of the popular Datsun Roadsters (still a Fairlady in Japan) was fitted with a 1500cc engine and is readily identified by it's square mesh grille and full wheel covers. The first cars had a "T" handle on the trunk lid but this had gone by 1964, shortly before the new SP311 was launched in May 1965. http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1962_320.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_320.jpg)320 - 1962
The Datsun 320 truck was a varient of the 310/312 sedans and came with two different kinds if bed, one was a traditional separate bed (as in the picture to the left) and the other a unitary design (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_320pu.jpg) which was joined to the cab. This type probably has more in common with the van or wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_320v.jpg) version of the 312. There was also a double cab (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_320dpu.jpg) version often http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1962_40.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1962_40.jpg)refered to as a "ranch sedan". 40 - 1962

The Nissan Cedric Special is really a long wheelbase, high spec version of the 31 series Cedric. It's the fore-father to the top of the line Nissan Presidents, the first of which (the H150) arrived in 1965.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1963_blra3.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1963_blra3.jpg)BLRA-3 - 1963

1963 saw the arrival of the Pininfarina styled Datsun 410 Bluebird. This was a very modern, crisp design with a European look. Whilst still mechanically quite conventional, this model was well equipped and had the usual Datsun strength and build quality. It offered superb value for money and sold well in the all important export markets. The 410 came in two specifications to start with, standard (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1963_410_std.jpg) and deluxe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1963_410_dx_r.jpg). A wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1964_wp410.jpg) was sold along side the sedans right from the start. A new model appeared in 1964, the sporty 1200 SS (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1964_410_ss.jpg). a few changes in September 1964 brought a different grille and new rubber trimmed bumper overiders and a two door sedan (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1964_410_2dr.jpg) was launched (in standard http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1963_s50.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1963_s50.jpg)specification initially). S50 - 1963
This Skyline was designed and built by Prince but got Nissan badging as well after the merger in 1966. It was sold as an A150 in many markets, a designation brought about by it's 1500cc (1484cc) 4 cylinder, OHV engine. Styling was revised several times during production but only minor items like trim and tail lights. This model was to for the basis of the first real performance Skyline, the six cyhttp://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1964_s54.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1964_s54.jpg)linder GT.S54 - 1964

The Prince Gloria looked a rather dated by the mid'60s with it's American inspired styling. One of the last models designed and sold solely by PMC before the Nissan merger. Called a Gloria in Japan but known as a PMC B200 in some markets. it's powered by the G7 six cylinder engine. This is the unit often mistakenly described as a copy of a Mercedes engine. The layout of the mercedes unit is very different, even the manifolds are on the opposite side of the head!C142 - 1964

Beautiful Albrecht Goertz designed coupe based on Fairlady underpinnings. Very few ever left the showroom and they fetch high prices today. Take a look at the Silvia Homepage (http://www.angelfire.com/ns/silvia/index.html) for more info.SP311 - 1965
The Datsun Fairlady gained an enlanged 1600cc OHV engine and a new grille plus a few other alterations in May 1965. The full cover wheel trims dissapeared too and were replaced with more conventional http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1965_130.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1965_130.jpg)center hub caps.130 - October 1965
The new Datsun Cedric for 1965 was very European in appearance and was a very good looking car, most modern in comparison to the model 31 it replaced. The new Cedric came as a four door sedan and a wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1965_w130.jpg) and the 2000cc OHV J20 six cylinder engine was used. The 130 recieved a small update after 12 months with new wide tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_130.jpg). In October 1967 another style of tail light (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1967_130_r.jpg) was introduced along with a http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1965_411_std.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1965_411_std.jpg)few other minor changes. 411 - May 1965
The first 411 Bluebirds were virtually idetical from the outside as the previous 410 model but slightly revised interior and more importantly a new 1300cc engine, the J series OHV unit. Alongside the new 411 there was another new car, the R411 which feature a 1600cc engine (see below). At the end of 1965 a new design grille was adopted along with re-designed tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_411_1300_r.jpg) mounted higher up on the raer panel. The SS (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_411_1300ss.jpg) re-apeared too as a two door with a 1300cc engine and a new grille (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_411_ss_f.jpg) which was different to the ordinary sedans. A wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_wp411_r.jpg) version of the 411 http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1965_r411_sss.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1965_r411_sss.jpg)was also available. R411 - May 1965
Datsun Bluebird 1600 SSS was the fastest version of the 411 (SSS actually stands for Super Sport Sedan). The SSS featured a 1600cc R16 engine the same as used in the SP310 Fairlady along with disc brakes on the front in place of drums. The SSS dash (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_r411_dash.jpg) also featured triple circular guages with a tachometer. As with the 1300cc 411, the early cars had the same tail lights as a 410 but only for around five months of production. The 1966 R411 (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_r411.jpg) recieved the new 1300 SS style grille. The R411 was available in both two and four door (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_r411_4dr.jpg) bodies as well as a wagon which known as a "Sportwagon" rather than SSS. http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1965_h150.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1965_h150.jpg)H150 - 1965
The H150 was the first Nissan President and Nissan first real attempt at the high class luxury car market. the Cedric Special (model 50) had been a luxury car but the President had one new advantage ...a silky smooth 4000cc V8 engine. The President was loaded with gadgets and extras and was very well appointed inside. For the economy minded the President could also be bought with a 3000cc straight six engine.520 - 1965
The pickup truck version of the 410 and 411 models was curiously coded 520 rather than 420 as you would expect. The first 520 came with a single headlight grille which was later revised to the more familiar dual headlight one. The E1 engine was used along with, on some models a four speed column shift. There were also 520 panel http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1970_140.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_140.jpg)vans and a wagon version.140 - 1965
This version of the Nissan Miler is not often seen and was not exported worldwide. I have only personally seen them in Egypt so I figure that other middle east and far east countries may have got them as well as Japan and some parts of south America. This particular picture came out of a sales brochure from Guatemala. The 140 is quite a big truck with a 2000kg carrying capacity. It's powered by the OHV four cylinder http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1966_concept.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_concept.jpg)H20 motor.? - 1966
This is possibly one of Nissan's earliest concept cars and certainly one of the wildest. I have no name or model code for this one and no technical specs, so if anybody knows anything about it please email http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1966_s54.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1966_s54.jpg)me!S54 - 1966

The B10 was a truly modern motor car in 1966. Sure it still had drum brakes and leaf springs all round but it performed very well. Many much newer cars struggle to achieve the combination of great economy, performance and handling that can be found in a B10. The B10 came as a two or four door sedan, a coupe and a wagon. Some countries also had a panel van version of the B10 although I believe this may have been locally produced. It was the first car to feature the OHV A series engine. You can read more about the B10 series elsewhere on Ratdat.comSR311 - 1967

The Datsun 521 pickup was a restyled 520 designed to run alongside the 510 sedan in the model range. This was probably the first big seller in the US and helped to establish the mini truck there. The 521 came with J series engines. The B20 was the pickup truck variant of the B10 Sunny launched in 1966. Mechanically the b20 is the same and actually uses many similar parts and panels as the B10. The B20 was available in Japan, Australia and, I believe South Africa. The B20 always used the full circle headlight surrounds that the '66 model Sedan and wagon used and the standard model hub caps although the truck was available in both standard and deluxe specification.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_clipper.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_clipper.jpg)? - 1968
The Nissan Clipper was the replacement for the old Prince model and used the H20 2000cc 4 cylinder OHV engine. The Clipper could carry up to two tons in some forms although the standard pickup version shown here was limited to one and a half tons. The transmission was a standar four speed with column shift and the cab feature a bench seat for three persons.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_pa30.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_pa30.jpg)A30 - 1967
The Nissan Gloria was a real styling departure for Nissan and was remarkably different to the preceding model, the S40 which they had inherited from Prince Motors. The stacked headlights gave the car a very American look, as did the rear end (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_pa30_er.jpg). All models used a straight six 2000cc engine and were available in standard, GL or Deluxe specification. The Gloria was given a minor facelift in October 1968 and again in April 1969 when there was a revised rear bumper design (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_pa30_lr.jpg) and different trunk lid. The A30 was also available as a wagon.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_510_1300dx.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_510_1300dx.jpg)510 - August 1967
The 510 was launched in August 1967 and went on sale in export countries in 1968. The first model features "clap hands" style wipers, small tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_510_1300dx_r.jpg) and a different grille to the 1969 and later models. Initially the cars came as 1300 and 1600 two or four door sedan, a 1300 wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_w510.jpg) or a four door sedan 1600 SSS (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_510_sss_4dr.jpg). In October 1968 a 1600 wagon joined the line-up and the range recieved a new design grille (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1969_510_1600dx.jpg). The sedan's central grille emblem changed from horizontal to vertical and the sedans recieved new tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1969_510_r.jpg). The car was revised again at the end of 1969 with larger front turn signals and a modified front valance to suit plus different badging. It was also fitted with a new style padded dash with round instuments. In September 1970 the 1300cc L series was ditched and the new 1400cc version took over. At the same time a new 1800 SSS sedan (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_510_1800sss.jpg) was introduced and the tail lights were revised on the GL (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_510_1600gl.jpg) and SSS models. 12 months later another major change took place, the 510 recieved a new plastic grill (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_510_sss.jpg) and plastic tail light surrounds (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_510_std_r.jpg). This modification was not adopted in many markets outside of Japan. This last generation of 510 in Japan also lost the bumper overiders from even the deluxe models. The 510 was (and still is) imensely popular and was built in many countries as late as 1974. There are many varients and model changes in the 510 line worldwide which I will deal with in a seperate article sometime.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_c30.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_c30.jpg)C30 - April 1968
The C30 was the first Datsun Laurel and filled a gap in the model line up between the 510 and 130 models and does bear a strong family resemblance to a 510 although marginally longer and wider. The C30 was a very sophisticated car for 1968 and featured an 1800cc OHC crossflow 108hp engine (type G18) of Prince design. There was also independant suspension all round with the classic semi trailing arm rear end of the 510 along with strut front suspension the same as a 240Z along with rack and pinion steering ...unusual in a Nissan sedan. The car was a medium sized executive car and as such was quite luxurious and smooth riding while still retaining a sporting feel. The C30 also came as a beautiful hardtop coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_kc30.jpg) which came equipped with dual SU type carburettors and a 2000cc engine (G20) on GX spec cars. Later C30 sedans could be had with the 2000cc engine as well. The 1970 C30 (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_c30.jpg) featured a new all plastic grille and slightly larger bumpers and adopted the five spoke hub caps of the coupe.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_c10_1500dx.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_c10_1500dx.jpg)C10 - August 1968
In August 1968 the Nissan Skyline 1500 sedan was launched to replace the Prince Skyline which Nissan had inherited in their merger with Prince Motors in 1966. The C10, although purely sold under the Nissan name had probably been initially concieved by Prince. The original G15 (1500cc) powered sedan was available in a wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_wc10.jpg) too. The sedan version feature fully independant suspension of a similar type to the classic 510. The 1969 C10 (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1969_c10_1500dx.jpg) was given a facelift when an 1800cc version of the G series engine was added and a new "S" model was introduced alongside the existing standard and deluxe cars. The wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1969_wc10_1800.jpg) was also fitted with an 1800cc engine. 1970 saw another facelift for both the sedan and wagon with a totally new grille (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_c10_1500_f.jpg) and tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_c10_1500_r.jpg) and more importantly a new hardtop coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_kc10_1800.jpg) was introduced. A further, final refinement was made in 1971 and the model continued for another twelve months before being replaced by the C110.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_130.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_130.jpg)130 (restyled) - September 1968
The Datsun Cedric was totally restyled in September 1968 with a fresh more squared off body. The new 130 was powered by L20A, L23 or L24 engines and in some countries a diesel was also available. The wagon version was also restyled at the same time.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_gc10_2000gt.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_gc10_2000gt.jpg)GC10 - October 1968
The original C10 Nissan Skyline gained a longer front end to acommodate a new 2000cc six cylinder SOHC engine and evolved into the 2000GT sedan in October 1968. In February 1969 the legendary 2000 GT-R (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1969_gc10_gtr.jpg) was launched. The GT-R was fitted with the S20 DOHC 2000cc straight six which Prince had developed for use in the R360 race car. The GT-R featured a new high spec interior with a well equipped dash although the outside of the car gave the look of a lightweight racer. The 1969 2000GT gained a new grille and this was changed again for the 1970 2000GT. 1970 also saw the appearance of the new 2000 GT-R hardtop coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_kgc10_gtr.jpg) complete with racing flared arches on the rear and an optional rear spoiler (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_kgc10_r.jpg). The 2000GT sedan also evolved into a 2000GT hardtop coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_kcg10_2000gt.jpg) version. The final six cylinder GC10's came in 1972 with the 2000 GT-X (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_gc10_2000gtx.jpg) in both coupe and sedan form.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1968_kp510.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1968_kp510.jpg)KP510 - November 1968
In November 1968 a new coupe version came out with a lower roofline and full with tail lights and was sold as a 1600 or 1600 SSS. The coupe recieved a minor revision to the tail lights and a new grille in 1969 and in September 1970 a new 1800 SSS (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_kp510.jpg) version was added. This and later coupes had rubber overiders on the bumpers. Sadly, the coupe was never officially exported and those few that have found their way outside of Japan fetch high prices.S30 - 1969

The 126X was a georgous futuristic four seater coupe that was displayed on the Tokyo Motorshow stand in 1970. This was a truly stunning design with a huge one piece lift up canopy and a mid engined layout. The rear view (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_126x_r.jpg) was equally impressive. This was the sort of design you would expect from an Italian design house rather than Nissan! I wonder if it still exists?
If anybody has any more information or pictures on this car please email me! ([email protected])http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1970_270x.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_270x.jpg)270X - 1970
The 270X was shown at the 1970 Tokyo Motorshow. It was a wild concept with it's forward hinging canopy and severe wedge shape styling. Power came from a mid mounted A-series engine mounted transversely (the same engine and transmission as the E10 Cherry - see below) so unfortunately there wasn't the "go" to match the looks.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1970_315a.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_315a.jpg)315a - 1970
The 315-a was shown on the 1970 Tokyo motorshow stand and was an experimental electric city car. Nissan have never built a car this small as many other Japanese manufacturers have so it's unusual for them to have made this. The styling was actually quite ahead of it's time in 1970.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1970_b110_2dr.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_b110_2dr.jpg)B110 - January 1970
Commonly known as the Datsun 1200, this was the second generation Sunny in Japan. The new Sunny sported MacPherson strut front suspension and the A series engine had grown to 1171cc. The body had attractive, simple styling and the car was a great sucess worldwide. the B110 range included both two and four door sedans (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_b110_4dr.jpg), a coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_kb110.jpg) and a wagon. The wagon actually came in three versions ...a standard four door wagon, a two door wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_wb110_3dr.jpg) and a van (although the latter only in a few countries). The van version had the rearmost side windows panneled in and was based on the three door wagon. The B110 always came with the A12 engine and although there were many different specifications the cars remained relatively unchanged throughout production. Initially in Japan, the cars could be had in Standard, GL and Deluxe trim and then in April 1970 the GX models were introduced with higher specification trim and black back panels (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_b110_gx_r.jpg) and a broad stripe down the side. In January 1972 the GL (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_b110_gl.jpg) and GX (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_b110_gx.jpg) cars recieved a redesigned hood as well as new grilles and tail lights. The last B110 version intoduced was the GX-5 which arrived in August 1972. The GX-5 had improved interiors, sports stripes and most importantly a five speed transmittion. The GX-5 is the most sought after model these days and can command high prices. A varient of the B110 was the L series engined PB110 (see below).http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1970_e10.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_e10.jpg)E10 - October 1970
The E10 Datsun Cherry of 1970 was Nissans first front wheel drive production car and proved to be very popular, especially in Europe ( where it was called the Datsun 100A) where cars of these type were already common. The first E10's came as either a two door sedan or four door sedan and are most easily distinguished by their small vertical tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1970_e10r.jpg) and mechanical engine cooling fans. The normal 1000cc cars used a transverse mounted A10 engine which sat above the four speed transmittion (three speed on column shift cars). The range was expanded with the addition of the 1200cc powered X-1 sedans and a wagon. The wagon was also available as a van with just two seats and a flat load floor in the rear. The range was revamped in June 1972 with new larger tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_e10.jpg) and different dashboards. Although the E10 was replaced by the F10 in 1974 the E10 two door sedan soldiered on until 1977.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1971_216x.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_216x.jpg)216X - 1971
Nissan didn't seem sure wether to go for a sleek concept of the then popular ESV prototype ...so they combined both in the 216X. ESV's (Experimental Safety Vehicle) generally feature heavy rubber bumpers and all manner of other style killing concessions but somehow Nissan managed to make the 216X look like a sleek sports car. As far as I'm aware, power came from an EFI straight six, most likely an L series as ased in the S30 fairlady Z.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1971_pb110_f.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_pb110_f.jpg)PB110 - April 1971
In addition to the standard Datsun Sunny B110 there was also a different L series engined version. This model came a year after the A series cars and consisted of four door sedans (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_pb110_4dr.jpg) and coupes (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_kpb110_r.jpg) with revised styling and L14 engines. These were sold as the "Sunny Excellent" in Japan and are readily identified by the presence of side marker lights mounted in the front edge of the fenders. Three main specifications were available, GL, GX and Deluxe. All models feature different interiors to the normal B110 sold worldwide and have unique grilles and tail lights.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1971_610_4dr.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_610_4dr.jpg)610 - August 1971
The 610 Datsun Bluebird was introduced as a replacement for the popular 510 series in August 1971. A four door sedan, hardtop coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_kp610.jpg) and wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_w610.jpg) were available with L18 and L18 engines (only L18 in the SSS) and all models apart from the wagon had independant rear suspension. SSS models had the familiar twin SU type carburettors or you could have an SSS-E (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_kp610_ssse.jpg) with fuel injection. In may 1972 the SSS models gained a five speed transmittion and a 1600 SSS-E sedan and coupe came out. The biggest external change came in August 1973 when the new front styling (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1973_610_1800gl.jpg) was introduced to all models. This consisted of a different grille and front fenders with the turn signals mounted either side of the headlights. New tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1973_610_1800gl_r.jpg) were added to complete the facelift. At the same time the six cylinder 2000GT-X was launched (see below) The 610 had a further minor update in 1976 before being replaced by the 810 series. In Europe, Australia and parts of South America the 610 series were sold as 160B or 180B. In America they were simply badged as 610's. http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1971_ke10.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_ke10.jpg)KE10 - September 1971
In September 1971 a crazy looking coupe was added to the E10 Cherry range. The coupe's styling was unique and the whole car stood nearly 75mm lower than the sedan and wagon. The whole roof line was much lower with the height of the windscreen dramatically reduced. In fact the roof was so much lower that the seat needd to be mounted closer to the floor of the car to allow reasonable headroom! The KE10, known as a 120A in Europe came equipped with an A12 engine and could be had in X-1 specification in Japan as well as a 1000cc version. The dash and interior of the coupe was also unique to it. in March 1973 the performance X-1.R (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1973_ke10_x1r.jpg) version was added. The X-1.R had larger 13" rims and bolt on wheel arch flares and used the X-1's twin carburettor A12. The X-1 and X-1.R were facelifted again in 1973 with new grilles and tail lights.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1971_230.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_230.jpg)230 - 1971
The 230 series now combined the Cedric and Gloria into the same basic car for the first time. These two varient offered different trim levels and mildly different styling. The two were initially lauched in February 1971 as four door sedans and hardtop coupes (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_k230_cedric.jpg). A wagon or van (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_w230.jpg) version was also available. The Gloria (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1971_230_gloria.jpg) featured a slightly different hood design from the Cedric and the coupes used large rectangular headlights in place of the sedans dual round units. Initially all models came with a 2000cc straight six engine until the 2600GX model was added in October 1971. The range was updated in July 1972 with new grilles (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_230.jpg) and in some cases tail lights. The next big addition came in August 1972 with the lauch of a four door hardtop (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_230_4drht.jpg) version of both the Cedric and the Gloria. In export markets this range was often badged as 220C, 240C or 260C depending in engine size. Abroad the coupe was available with round headlights.620 - 1972
http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1972_c130.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_c130.jpg)C130 - April 1972
The new Nissan Laurel for 1972 was a much bigger car than the old C30 model, although initially it still came with the four cylinder G series engine in both 1800cc and 2000cc. Again there was a hardtop coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_kc130.jpg) version. Both models featured very American influenced styling, especially on the coupe where the tail lights were mounted in the bumper (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_kc130_r.jpg). A 2000cc six cylinder model was also lauched and in October 1973 a 2600SGL (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1973_c130_sgl.jpg) was added ti the line-up, the engine of which was increased to 2800cc in September 1979 (then a 2800SGL). The C130 shares much of it's underside metalwork with the GC110 model although, even the four cylinder C130 uses the same wheelbase unlike the short four cylinder C110. The sedan C130 generally had a live axle and the hardtop coupe was independant.

The short wheelbase C110 arrived with the G series engines in 1600 and 1800 form and an angular new body with a clear family resemblance to the previous C10 model. The four cylinder four door sedans, often dubbed the 160K or 180K in export countries, had unique tailights that were different to the six cylinder versions. There was also a wagon (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_wc110.jpg) version available with rather strange panneled in rear side windows. Right from the start there was a two door hardtop coup (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_kc110.jpg)e version with the four cylinder engine (both 1600 and 1800) although the short front end look a little odd on the coupe. The four cylinder models all had leaf spring rear axles.http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/thumbnails/1972_gc110.jpg (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_gc110.jpg)GC110 - September 1972
The six cylinder Skyline came as both a sedan and a coupe (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1973_kgc110.jpg), all with 2000cc engines (L20A) but in a choice of Deluxe, GT or GT-X spec. The coupes featured the classic twin round tail lights (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1972_gc110_r.jpg), familiar on the modern Skylines. The 2000 GT-R hardtop (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1973_kpgc110.jpg) arrived in 1973 (there was no four door GT-R this time) and featured the same S20, triple carburettored DOHC six as the previous GT-R. The new GT-R had black flared arches all round and a rear spoiler as well as a different grille. The range was constantly updated with new trim and fitting and ever improving levels of luxury. At the end of 1975 fuel injection was offered and in 1976 the NAPS system made an appearance. The final versions were the GTX-E-S (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1977_kgc110_gtx.jpg) and GTX-E-L (http://www.ratdat.com/history/1959to1972/images/1977_gc110_gtx.jpg) and had emore chrome and alloy wheels and options such as a rear wiper became available. All the six cylinder GT and GT-R models featured independant rear suspension. Export models were often fitted with a larger L24 engine and the model re-named 240K or 240K-GT. The GT-R was not officially exported outside of Japan.
